    Interesting facts about Lexington District One

    • Lexington District One serves more than 27,000 students from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12 with more than 3,600 employees (not including substitutes) and 31 schools (17 elementary schools, eight middle schools, five high schools, one technology center). The district also has an alternative education services program designed to help students at risk of expulsion.

    • The 360 square miles that make up Lexington District One stretch from the banks of Lake Murray to the county’s southern border with Aiken County. Our district occupies 48 percent of the county’s 699 square miles and is one of the county’s major employers. 2019 Census Data shows Lexington County’s population as 298,750 and the area that makes up Lexington One’s population as 146,675 or 49 percent of the county.

    • During the past 10 years (2011–2021), Lexington District One grew by an average of 425 new students per year.

    • Even after building 18 new schools since 1997, the district still uses 160 portables across the district. (New schools include Lakeside Middle, which is currently under construction.)

    • World languages are offered at all levels, including elementary, middle and high school.

    • Our students excel in state and national award-winning marching bands, symphonic bands, choral programs, strings programs and athletic programs.

    • Lexington District One students perform well on nationally normed assessments (ACT, PSAT, SAT, MAP).
