About Us

  • Lexington One Adult Education has been serving our community since 1980, starting at the Lexington Technology Center. As our enrollment grew, we moved to the Rosenwald Community Learning Center, and in 2022, we relocated to our current home at the North Lake Community Learning Center.

Our adult education programs are overseen by the South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) and fall under the South Carolina State Board of Education. The Office of Adult Education is part of the Division of Federal Programs and Comprehensive Educational Services, ensuring the smooth operation of adult education across the state.

We offer a variety of programs to help students reach their goals, including earning a High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED), a High School Diploma (HSD), a South Carolina Career Readiness Certificate, English as a Second Language (ESL) classes, and Family Literacy (FL) programs. Each year, Lexington One Adult Education serves approximately 950 students across these programs, supported by our dedicated team of around 25 staff members.

We're proud to have received several awards from the South Carolina Department of Education in 2024, including the Enrollment Growth Award, Highest Numbers of High School Diploma Completers Award, ESL Performance Award, and Overall Performance Award for Adult Basic Education and ESL programs. These recognitions highlight our commitment to providing quality education and support to our students.

Mission

  • The mission of adult education in South Carolina is to; assist adults in becoming literate and obtaining the knowledge and skills necessary for employment and economic self-sufficiency; assist adults who are parents to obtain the educational skills necessary for them to become full partners in the educational development of their children; and assist adults in the completion of a secondary-school education.

Vision

  • The vision of adult education is for all South Carolina adults to have a high level of literacy, which enables them to access needed information, take independent action, express ideas and opinions, keep up with the changing world, and exercise rights and responsibilities as family members, workers, and community members.
