    Why the GED?

Earning a GED is a way to earn a secondary school credential without graduating from a traditional high school. The GED is a seven-and-a-half hour exam split into four sections that measure knowledge and skills that are expected of high school graduates. South Carolina does not require that GED candidates take a prep course before sitting down to take the tests. However, enrolling in a preparatory course can help familiarize you with what is on the test, the types of questions you will be asked, and the computer format used on the GED tests. Additionally, a prep course might help increase your scores!

In Lexington One Adult Education GED Prep classes, we build on the skills you already have, work on the skills that need improvement, and teach test-taking skills to alleviate anxieties you may have. More importantly, we are there to cheer you on from day 1 and here to help however we can.

Registration by appointment only. Call (803) 821-2950 to schedule your appointment!

Ways to get a Registration Form:

    • Call (803) 821-2950 to reserve your time and request a form be sent to you
    • Stop by our office to set up your appointment and pick up a form.

Once you make an appointment for registration, you will come to the North Lake Community Learning Center campus during your scheduled time, and complete your registration paperwork and also take your TABE Assessment (Test of Adult Basic Education.) Please allow 2 ½ hours for this step. Bring along your state-issued ID, $25.00 Registration Fee, and your Social Security Number (the actual card is not necessary.)

When you finish your TABE Assessment, you will receive an orientation packet with more information about program components and expectations. (Scholarships are available for payment of GED tests, which total $150. Students must meet program guidelines to be eligible for the scholarship.)
