    Friday January 8, 2021

    Hello, Mustangs!

Many thanks to our teachers, students, and parents for making our virtual first week of 2021 a huge success! Yes, there are always glitches with technology but everyone worked together in resolving and finding solutions. Truly proud of all as parents and students have shared with me the success of this week.

Please know that this virtual week was designed so that school nurses and administrators could trace exposures and determine needed quarantines or isolations for students and staff. This is so important as we try to reduce spreading COVID within our school. We can't teach without teachers or students.

Please do contact the school nurse, Lindsay Ross, immediately if your child is showing symptoms, is exposed, or not feeling well.

Please do not send a child to school if not well.

Know that we do have MES students and staff with COVID so we are being touched by this terrible illness. It isn't but a cold for some while others are being knocked off their feet for some time. We celebrate and thank Lexington Medical Center for working with Lexington One so that School Nurses could receive the vaccine. Educators have now been added to the 1b level of receiving the vaccine. This is great news!

Please remember as we return our face to face students on Monday, January 11, the following safety measures continue:

    1. Everyone wears a mask. Mask breaks will continue as needed.

    2. Regular hand washing and use of hand sanitizer will continue.

    3. Plexiglass is still in place at each student desk or designated location.

    4. Students will remain in their classrooms for related arts (unless outside) and lunch.

    5. Two recesses continue for mask breaks, fresh air, and movement.

    6. Only staff and students are allowed in the building.

    7. No outside food vendors may be delivered to students and staff.

    8. Each afternoon the rooms are cleaned and sanitized with electrostatic sprayer.

I know there are more safety steps but wanted to reassure and remind each of us about safety as we come together for face to face learning. The community spread rate is high but we don't want this to transfer to our Midway family. We WANT to stay open. Let's work together to make this happen.

Now--the happy part!!! Welcome back into the building students!! I look forward to seeing your smiles on Monday!! Yes, smiles do shine in eyes! To our virtual students, I will be dropping into your classrooms as well! Happy 2021!

    Yours truly,

    Jan Fickling
