Mrs. Callie Smith
Hi there! I'm Mrs. Smith, and I’m thrilled to be your history and geography guide this year! My students often describe me as energetic, vibrant, and maybe just a little quirky—and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’m passionate about bringing history to life in our classroom and making learning an adventure. Outside of school, you’ll find me practicing yoga, gardening, reading, or cheering on Gamecock basketball.
I started my career as a librarian, and becoming a teacher was a serendipitous shift that felt like coming home. I thrive on the energy of the classroom—the constant creativity, movement, and connection—and I’m so excited to share my love for history with you. As Michael Jordan once said, "You have to expect things of yourself before you can do them," and that's the kind of mindset I bring to everything I do. We run the day here, not the other way around!
About the Class:
In 6th grade, we’ll embark on a journey through world history, exploring ancient civilizations all the way to modern times. Think of it like one big, fascinating story unfolding throughout the year. In 7th grade, we’ll dive into the five main themes of geography, with students working on a capstone project they’ll add to as we go.
My class is all about hands-on learning, project-based activities, and encouraging students to think beyond just the facts. Expect to be moving, creating, and collaborating with your peers. I’m a huge fan of digital and non-digital projects that allow you to showcase your creativity and critical thinking skills. Whether we’re analyzing ancient cultures or mapping out the world, you’ll be asking questions like “why” and “how,” not just memorizing the “what.”
By the end of the year, I hope you leave with a deeper appreciation for history, some life skills you can carry with you, and the knowledge that you’ve got one more person cheering for you and your success in life.
Let’s make this an unforgettable year!
