01-07-2021 — Helpful reminders about the next two weeks

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Here are some helpful reminders about the next two weeks. First, remember that we continue first semester on Monday, January 11. Second-semester shifts do not take place until the following week.

For the week of January 11 through January 15, 2021

Online Learning Academy students stay in the same schedule they were in before Winter Break — except for high school students taking courses that require end-of-course exams. Those students have been notified when and where they will take their end-of-course exams (Algebra 1, Biology, English 2, U.S. History).

Kindergarten through sixth-grade students in the face-to-face model (the four-plus-one model) stay in the same schedules they were in before Winter Break.
Ninth-grade through twelfth-grade students in the face-to-face model will follow the district’s exam schedule for this week. Each high school has communicated those exam schedules with these students.

Cohort A and B students in the seventh and eighth grade shift back to the hybrid model. (Grades 7–8 Cohort A students attend school face-to-face on Monday and Tuesday. Grades 7–8 Cohort B students attend school face-to-face on Wednesday and Thursday. The other three days are e-learning days.)

For the week of January 18 through January 22, 2021

Monday, January 18, is a holiday. There is no school.

Tuesday, January 19, the second semester begins. Students changing instructional models (from the Online Learning Academy to face-to-face instruction, for instance) start their new semester in their new instructional model on Tuesday.
The Online Learning Academy will reach out to second-semester LOOLA students with information about their LOOLA schedules and teachers.

Beginning Tuesday, January 19, face-to-face model kindergarten through eighth-grade students attend school in the four-plus-one model (Monday–Thursday at school, Friday e-learning day).

Beginning Tuesday, January 19, Cohort A and B ninth-grade through twelfth-grade students in the face-to-face model for the second semester continue in the hybrid model until further notice. (Cohort A students attend school face-to-face on Monday and Tuesday. Cohort B students attend school face-to-face on Wednesday and Thursday. The other three days are e-learning days.)

In most cases, you should be able to see your student’s schedule for the second semester on the PowerSchool website or the mobile App beginning Monday, January 11. Students in grades 6–12 will be able to see their second-semester classes in Schoology beginning Monday, January 11.

I hope that this email helps you understand our plans for the next two weeks. We are working hard to keep you up-to-date. And, remember — the second semester does not begin until Tuesday, January 19.

Thanks for all you do for your students,

Mary Beth Hill, Chief Communications Officer
