• The visual arts are essential for a well-balanced program of study. A structured, yet flexible curriculum best suits the students’ educational needs. Lessons are based on the SC Standards focusing on the Elements and Principles of Art. Common Core Standards and technology play a vital role in the art classroom. A visual environment, incorporating concepts and skills from four branches of knowledge: aesthetics, art criticism, art history, and art production, allow children to explore and create, retain and strengthen acquired concepts and skills, develop problem-solving strategies, obtain a sense of pride and accomplishment, and nourish their creative self.

Hi Mustang Family! I am so excited about joining this wonderful community.

This is my 10th year teaching art and my first year teaching here at Midway Elementary.  I have a Bachelor's degree from the University of South Carolina in Art Education. I cannot wait to make some art with these wonderful artists. We will be using clay, paint, oil pastels, and some other materials to create our masterpieces. I look forward to seeing all this artwork and meeting all these artists.

A little bit about me. I am married and have a sweet baby boy. We love to travel, especially to Disney World. It's my favorite place! I have attended Lexington One schools and I am so happy to work in the district I grew up in.

I am ready for a wonderful year here at Midway!

My name is Grant Erd and I am so excited for my 8th year at Midway!  In our Mustang art class, we draw, color, paint, print, build, and most importantly, have fun being creative artists.  Through the arts, our Midway Mustangs will learn how to problem solve, think critically, collaborate, and expand our learning by making connections to the world around us.  I am an alumni of the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor’s Degree in Art Education. Go Gamecocks! At home, I enjoy spending time with my wonderful wife, Andrea, our son Mason, and our two dogs Luna and Dolly. Looking forward to another great year here at Midway!
