• Special ServicesLexington County School District One’s Special Services Program is devoted to enriching the lives of students with developmental delays or disabilities. The program provides early intervention services to children between the ages of 3 and 5 years and a continuum of special services for students from 3 to 21 years.

    Preschool Screening and Evaluation

    The district screens students for developmental delays beginning at age 2 years 10 months. You may elect to have your child evaluated if you have concerns about your child’s development in any of the following areas:

    • Communication skills
    • Motor skills
    • Cognitive skills
    • Socialization skills
    • Self-help skills

     

    Following screening, a multidisciplinary team will meet with you to determine if a developmental delay or disability is suspected. If so, a comprehensive evaluation will be recommended.

    Scheduling a Screening Appointment

    Preschool screening clinics are conducted by appointment during the school year. Parents may schedule a screening appointment for their child by contacting the Special Services department at 803.821.1101.
