Career and Technical Education
Career and Technical Education prepares students with the academic and technical skills, knowledge, and training necessary to succeed in a future career. CTE is designed for ALL students: those who will be employed in the workforce, those who enlist in the military, and/or those who will enroll in a college or technical school after graduation. Ideally, a student is best prepared for future careers when they challenge themselves academically and then apply those core academic concepts with CTE instruction, including problem solving, authentic learning, craftsmanship, and skills provided in a CTE lab and classroom.

In Lexington One, students have the opportunity to participate in CTE classes at all 5 high schools, all 8 middle schools, and Lexington Technology Center. There are currently 38 CTE programs in our district:

Completer and Concentrator
Students in the courses listed above have the opportunity to complete a CTE pathway. A CTE pathway is a 3-4 course sequence in an area of focus. A student who finishes the first two required courses in the sequence is referred to as a CTE Concentrator, and a student who finishes the sequence is referred to as a CTE Completer. Please see the Lexington One Curriculum Frameworks and the CTE Course Catalog for the pathway to completion in each area.

Middle School CTE
In Lexington One, our middle school students have the opportunity to begin exploring careers. Across our district, we have STEM, Computer Science, Digital Arts, Agriculture, and Family and Consumer Science programs that are all CTE related. In addition, students have the opportunity to participate in tours of Lexington Technology Center in the 8th grade, Career Fairs in the 7th grade, and in Work-Based Learning experiences provided by their counselors and district career specialists to explore careers and future potential CTE pathways.

Career & Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs)
CTSOs are co-curricular competitive and leadership organizations where students can build and enhance skills learned in the classroom. Chapters often have officer teams at the local level, and if they are interested, students can run for a state officer position. Students can also compete in a skill learned in their classroom and lab against other students from across the state and nation.
