Board speaks out for public education

The work of our school board members demands commitment — members invest hundreds of hours of personal and professional time working for and in our district. Successful board members possess the skill of diplomats, the knowledge of scholars, and the commitment of the truly devoted.

They carry the message and mission of the district to community residents; participate in various district functions, school events, and community meetings; and spend countless hours reading, researching, and studying materials — all this in addition to the many hours they spend attending board meetings.

School board members carefully develop policies, take actions, and make decisions for our schools that reflect the values and expectations of the citizens of the Gilbert, Lexington, Pelion, and White Knoll attendance areas.

Participation from the public is encouraged

The Lexington County School District One Board of Trustees meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. Meetings are open to the public. Normally, the board holds their meetings in the Auditorium of Central Services located at 100 Tarrar Springs Road in Lexington.

The board holds its executive sessions prior to the public meeting. However, members of the board take no action in executive session. They take all action in open session.

Lexington One’s Communications Office notifies the media of all regular or special meeting dates, as well as any date or location changes well in advance of the meeting.

School board members are elected for four-year terms and receive no financial compensation for serving as members of our Board of Trustees.
